My first home-buying experience was extremely positive, which I attribute directly to having JoEllen as my realtor. Across the board from starting to look at houses to after closing, she was (and continues to be) helpful, informative, and supportive. She acted as an interpreter, advocate, negotiator, resource, navigator, and sounding board. We developed a trusting relationship over the course of the months I was looking for houses. I felt very comfortable with and well-represented by her communications with other realtors and sellers. In fact, I was repeatedly struck by her nuanced communication skills and ways of approaching people and situations. She is seriously an expert.
Her responsiveness and in-depth knowledge the real estate market were invaluable in Durham's competitive market. When a home went on the market while I was out of town and was sure to sell immediately, JoEllen visited the home the first day it opened on my behalf and took over 30 minutes of video footage of the house along with her running commentary.
It being my first time buying a home, I had many questions. I never felt like she tired of my questions and she was great at giving me a heads-up about what to expect further down the road. I never felt crowded by her, but supported in a way that made the home-looking and home-buying process one without anxiety and fear. I also never felt pressure in any sense or driven by JoEllen's personal thoughts. JoEllen was great about asking me questions to help me think through my own positions, values, potential regrets, and hopes. I'm so thankful for all of JoEllen's efforts, but more importantly, who she is as a wonderful person. I am in a home of my dreams and went through a pleasant, supportive, trusting home-buying process thanks to her.
