Within the past year I began to take a look at the Maggie Valley area as a potential retirement destination. I had not been to Maggie Valley since I was a teenager and my only recollection was riding the chair lift up to Ghost Town and having a "sarsaparilla". So I did some online research of Maggie Valley homes for sale and then spent 2 sunny fall days just riding through the peaks and valleys of Haywood County looking at over 50 or so homes, taking pictures and making notes. I narrowed my choices down to 5 homes that were of particular interest to me, one of which was listed by Realty World. Just before leaving town, I stopped un-announced by Realty World and was greeted by Christine Mallette. Christine stepped away from a meeting and spent a good 30 minutes with me looking through my list and my notes on the 50 or so homes I had viewed. She was very interested in what my likes and dislikes were and what drove my decision making process to my final list of 5 homes. I was very impressed of her quest to gain insight of the properties from a "buyer's" perspective.
Christine indicated that Thomas was very familiar with the history of the Realty World property that was on my final list so after going through all the agency-buyer formalities we set up a time that my wife and I could returned for viewings of the homes. I returned with my wife to Maggie Valley a few weeks later, meeting Thomas for the first time. So off we went home viewing, and at no time during our home viewing process did Thomas attempt to push his Realty World property more than the properties listed with other agencies. He answered questions with "my best" interest in mind. When we got to the Realty World property, Thomas was very upfront about prior difficulties in selling the property and answered all my questions pertaining to such. He wanted to be sure that I knew it would NOT be "easy sailing" to achieve "closing" on this property.
I had a favorite property all along, I just had to gain the approval of my wife, and not have anything major during the home viewing to dissuade me. That all worked out and we choose my favorite, the Realty World property. Well, Thomas was right, contract negotiations "let me just say" were very "trying". There were several unfinished items with this house for which "values" had to be established, and with me being over 5 hours away from Maggie Valley, Thomas provided numerous contacts to assist in establishing "fair" value for these items and served as my "eyes" and "ears" in my absence. Negotiations went back and forth with the seller on these "values" and other "particulars" before a final contract price was established. Thomas was always in the "loop" between all the parties involved and was able to answer my questions timely, providing a "high level of comfort" and a "low level of anxiety" throughout the process. Knowing of the prior difficulties surrounding this property, Thomas left no rock unturned, going way beyond the "norm" to assure that all bases were covered. Finally, after a lot of hard work and a lot of patience, "closing" has occurred. I appreciate Thomas' professionalism and attentiveness throughout my process, but what I truly appreciate more is being treated like a "friend" instead of like a "client".
