When Brandon and Tess Lopez sought to buy their second home, they knew they’d have to wait a while. They had their eyes on a new Webb home in north Chico, so they’d bought their new house before it was completed.

They started the lending process months before they closed, so the usual home-buying scenario of scrambling to jump on a new property didn’t apply to them. That meant they had four months to get every detail buttoned up when it came to securing their home loan.

With that factored in, Brandon knew he wouldn’t have to be rushed into any part of the process. Initially he had looked into a different home loan company, which secured him a pretty good rate. But after asking around some and taking in word of mouth, he heard about us from friends. We were happy to find a better deal for him and we took the role of making his lending experience seriously.

“They came so highly recommended that I wanted to take the time to sit and research who I wanted to work with,” Brandon said. “I feel like I was able to make a good informed decision and it paid off. I got a good rate and still paid for less points.”

Brandon said he also got a good vibe from working with us. He doesn’t work far from our office, actually, and we soon started to see more and more of him. We were delighted to hear that he found us to be helpful and approachable.

Brandon even did most of the heavy lifting—aka, the paperwork—online, which was perfect for his full schedule. With those processes taken care of and the lending made easy, Brandon and Tess are enjoying their brand-new home!

Chris Covin had a longtime goal in his mind of being a homeowner by the time he was 30. At 29, he made it come true!
"For me, that was always a big thing and kind of a mark of success I aspired to reach for myself and my family," he said. "It honestly feels pretty amazing to think that we have a house we love, in a great area, with everything right in line with what we wanted."
The home-buying process for Chris and his wife presented itself as a daunting one at first, even though the Covins had a near-exact idea of the house and area they wanted. Securing a loan to buy it opened up a ton of new questions for them to consider. When they came in to Evergreen, Chris said, they were looking for three major answers. The first one was the most important.
"Top of the list for me was honesty," Chris said. "I'm a very honest person by nature and it's just a value I place a lot of importance on, both personally and in business. The first thing we had to figure out was, which company is going to have our best interest in mind? You hear horror stories all the time about people getting ripped off or getting in situations where they get bad advice and end up in a situation they can't afford."
We were thrilled to hear that our reputation preceded us, but we also knew that we had to prove it to Chris. To do that, we had to follow up on his other two concerns: Providing answers about the lending process, and making sure the Covins were in a situation that would work for them.
"We did as much research as we could to find our house, and learn details about getting our loan, but there's really only so much you can learn by Googling," Chris said. "Steven was really good about always being a text away at all times, being really responsive and keeping us updated on everything like interest rates and when to lock ours in."
Chris qualified for an FHA loan that allowed his family to explore buying opportunities near the downtown area, and a house they absolutely adored became available. The "stars lined up," as he put it, with a home that was basically turnkey and ready for the Covins to make it their new home. Once it came time to put down a down payment, Chris said, he realized the magnitude of the move his family was about to make.
The idea of making the biggest financial commitment of his life to date could have been stressful – for many, it often is – but he said he never felt anxiety over it, even through a 60-day escrow period.
"Honestly, the way Steven and Jason communicated with us just eliminated all of that. All we had to do was wait," he said. "We felt like we had as much information as we could possibly have. When it's your first house, that's just huge.
“I’m 29, and I'm a homeowner,” Chris continued, “and that was always my goal. It feels awesome. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't change a single step. Evergreen, Steven, Jason – they were so good about keeping us informed and guiding us that I'd go back to them every time.”

I recently had to refinance due to some very stressful circumstances. Steven was a wonderful mortgage consultant. He handled our very complex situation or refinancing an investment property, a VA loan and buying a new home in one of the most competitive markets in the country.
