The prospect of selling my beautiful home filled me with dread and trepidation. I had put off this endeavor for more than five years, and like so many of us as we get older and a little bit broker, I decided I had to down-size, face my procrastination, and just do it.
And that’s how I came to meet Mercedeh Sheik. I had a very large house on 2 acres of lovely gardens and every square inch of the house was literally jammed packed to the rafters with art, sundries and exotic collectibles. The garage was worse!
Mercedeh kicked into high gear! The “jungle” had taken over my garden and she found some landscapers to groom the place and worked tirelessly with them in the heat supervising. Meanwhile she found a fantastic “packing company” that specialized in helping the elderly and people that are physically challenged or in a wheelchair, like myself. They tirelessly packed, sorted and labeled until all the items were ready to go. And they did everything “my way”! Wonderful!
Once everything had been cleared out of the house, Mercedeh helped me with the insurmountable task of finding painters, cleaners, handymen, roofers, house inspectors, window washers and stagers. She was always so upbeat and positive, gently guiding and steering me, the great procrastinator, down that painful path of a thousand and one decisions!
I decided to go with a much higher price than I had originally hoped to get. From a strategic standpoint, Mercedeh advised against it...and my greed was later to come back and bite me in the *** . I wish I had taken her advice!
The result of pricing my home too high was that I ended up with only one prospect; the buyer from Hell. First he hounded me to do a preposterous amount of renovations for countless thousands of dollars in order that he should get the equivalent of a brand new house. I agreed to some of the renovations but then he kept price gauging me in these stressful negotiations that went on for weeks. Each contract he submitted was worst then the last and when he tried to reach below my bottom dollar we decided to cut negotiations.
Mercedeh and I sat down, and once again, she advised me to lower my price down to what I had originally hoped to get... which was right around the appraisal value of the house. So that’s what we did. Within days Mercedeh brought me a full cash offer with no contingencies and no renovations... just my asking price and about 3 weeks to close. Simple. Done. I was absolutely thrilled!!
It was really great working with someone like Mercedeh. It was like collaborating with a good friend, someone you can trust. She was not only very professional but had also worked tirelessly and patiently with me every step of the way....answering all my questions, explaining contracts and was always optimistic and cheerful. I can’t recommend Mercedeh Sheik enough for all the time and enthusiasm she brought to my project.
