My parents lost their independence a year apart from each other in 2005 and 2006 when they each suffered strokes. Not only were their lives completely changed but so was my own.
My siblings and I became overwhelmed and stressed with the many decisions we had to make regarding their health, finances, and long term care. We didn't have much time to process information and consider options. It all happened fast and too soon.
My dad wished to return home with my mom after rehab but I didn't think we could afford to. A friend suggested a solution that would enable us to convert some of my folks' home equity into cash which we could use to pay for their care. I initially was open to learning more but after hearing that it involved a "reverse mortgage" I immediately shut down the idea. I thought it was a sham.
I sold my parents' home a short time later. It wasn't too long after that when I learned how reverse mortgages actually worked. Unfortunately, it was too late. I regretted not looking into this option more closely for my folks especially since it may have worked for them. I regretted not having considered this options.
Lesson learned. Four months after the sale of their home I became a reverse mortgage specialist. I now teach others how this unique loan really works. I enjoy working with seniors, their families and other professionals who want to know about how home equity may be utilized to give our kupuna the best retirement possible.

I received a quick response when I inquired about a reverse mortgage. Wendy Oshiro took the time, approximately 1 hour to explain the process which was informative. I was given step by step instructions throughout the process which made it easy. The other agencies involved that works closely with Wendy were very helpful and comfortable to work with. Upon my parents passing, my sister and I became equal owners of their home, where I currently reside.

I didn't want to move out and I didn't have the funds to buy her out so I turned to a realtor friend in the hopes of any other options. If it wasn’t for Mutual of Omaha coming to the rescue and pick up the mess AAG did, they were so understanding and professional and worked diligently to expedite our loan for our 100 year old mother! I encourage anyone wanting a Reverse Mortgage to please contact them immediately, their staff is so great to work with Jorge was always on top of things and responsive to calls or emails, also couldn’t have done it without Wendy whom is based in Honolulu Hawaii. It was all done and closed within three months.

We met with Wendy Oshiro of Open Mortgage, LLC regarding reverse mortgages because we were helping a friend. A reverse mortgage seemed to be a long term solution for allowing this friend to stay in the home she grew up in. For those considering a reverse mortgage especially on Oahu we highly recommend Wendy Oshiro at Open Mortgage.
Initially we were apprehensive about the concept of reverse mortgages but Wendy dispelled our fears. From our first meeting we found her to be very knowledgeable as she explained what a reverse mortgage can provide, its benefits and advantages as well as precautions to consider, documentation we would need to provide, standard fees to expect from all entities involved, the amount we may qualify for, and responsibilities as borrowers. Of the different options available for the reverse mortgage, she helped us decide which would be the best choice for our needs. We asked her to proceed with our application.
Before the application process could go forward we were required to consult a HUD credit counselor who forewarned us that sometimes these applications could take as long as three months. However, Wendy and her team were able to complete the entire process in seven weeks which was phenomenal.
Wendy kept us apprised of the progress of our application each step of the way. She is well informed, experienced, thorough and efficient. She is also very personable and was always available to answer questions and followed up. Working with a local company has its advantages and we were very fortunate to have found a very competent person in Wendy.

I am lost with words.....This whole process brought a peace of mind for my mother(who was the one- who signed) but, I was there to provide Wendy with all necessary paperwork through this process.
I had called and met Wendy many.....years ago, was always bogged down with obligations towards caring for my mom's health, safety and wellness but, finally I saw Wendy with another client , just coincidentally and that was the sign to me to move forward!
Wendy was in constant contact and communicating- giving us all options and what would be "BEST" FOR MY MOTHER and her wishes.
Wendy is "local" which gave me a "piece of mind" knowing that her endeavors were legitimate.
The reverse mortgage is regulated by the government ensuring that especially, "our seniors" are NOT taken advantage of or scammed. There is an interview done also, to ensure that the person who is applying for the reverse mortgage understands what it is all about.
For those considering for a reverse mortgage, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!
