After my second trip to Bonaire in 2022, I fell in love with the island and hoped to have an opportunity to purchase a property. Buying a house site unseen other than photos, virtual tour, and some video is not for the faint of heart. My husband and I decided to purchase real estate in Bonaire in January of 2023. This was after having visited the island 8 times over the last 10 years. We have never purchased anything outside of the USA before so this was all new to us. Our friends on the island recommended that we talk with Stacy Olson. She kindly made time for us on a Sunday (not common in Bonaire) to walk us through the process of buying. I remember writing down everything she said in a little notebook. (I used if for the entire process and it actually became 2 large file folders). We have purchased property in America and have even built a speculation home in the USA. Buying in Bonaire was very different. We engaged Stacy right away. We had already found a property that we were in love with and did not want to lose it (things don't stay on the market long). We thought we would have to pay cash for it but she said - Let's try to get you a mortgage from a local bank. She introduced us to Orco bank for us to get a mortgage at a rate of 5%. We had 4 weeks to make this mortgage happen if we were going to get the property. Everyday Stacy was on top of the bank checking on the status and finding out what new information they needed from us. We wired good faith money and did not hear for 3 days if it had arrived at the bank that would be doing the closing. (Part of buying real estate in Bonaire). She assured us things were fine. It was. She helped us secure a local bank account so that we could pay our mortgage and utilities each month and also helped us find the perfect property management company. Did I mention that we had NEVER set foot in this property and we were buying it fully furnished? Stacy did all of the walk throughs of it on Facetime and had it inspected for us as well. She made sure everything was in working order. When we finally walked in the door for the first time on April 10, 2023 (as homeowners) it was magical!!!! Within 90 days she had wrapped this all up for us!!! The place was even more beautiful than expected and all of the utilities were working and she even had a bottle of bubbles chilling for us in the fridge. We could not be happier and we can't wait to spend more time on Bonaire with Stacy and all of wonderful people we now call friends.
