We recently closed on the sale of my sister's house in Las Vegas. She and her husband lived in the house for nearly 25 years, and for most of that time were active, talented, and responsible home owners. In the later years, age caught up to them. Her husband was a 100% disabled retired navy deep sea diver. The effects took a tole on his physical and mental capabilities, and towards the end, his heart was there but his ability to take care of the house was not. In her later years, my sister required oxygen full time and was confined to a 3-wheeled scooter full time. Being fiercely independent and stubborn, they refused assistance of any kind. As a result, their home was very cluttered and damaged from scooter meeting walls and cupboards incidents, dog "accidents" on the carpet, unfinished projects, and curb to back fence clutter. Upon their passing, I inherited the task of managing their affairs; not easy when you are 1,200 miles away and not as young as I used to be. Nicole was a driving force in lining up help in preparing the house for sale, and successfully sold the house at a price that allowed me to settle their accounts and pass the home on to "good neighbors". She is my hero and an angel.
