When I left Cal Poly State University I had an education in broadcast journalism. I worked for 7 years in television as a sports anchor/reporter/photographer. During this time I met many interesting athletes from Barry Bonds to Jerry Rice. It was a lot of fun but I knew it was going to require a lot of moving from city to city as I worked my way up the ladder.

I made the decision with my wife Jen that we would move home to the Bay Area shortly after we started our family in 2004. When I made the decision to get into another career I knew I had excellent listening and communication skills. When Real Estate was suggested to me as a new career path I did not believe I had the skills to “sell” people anything. It was apparent many people I spoke with had been burned by a fast talking real estate agent. Before I stepped foot in a real estate office or wrote my first contract I decided I would spend my time taking care of people, exceed their expectations and work by referral. My success comes from my clients who refer me to their friends and family members. This can be a tough business but when you know you are making a positive impact on people and their families it’s invigorating. We are helping more people than ever, even in an ever changing market. And, we’re having fun doing it.

Business philosophy

My business philosophy is to be a teacher and care for my clients needs in a way that they will want to tell their friends and family about me. I work by referral exclusively. What this means to you is that instead of searching for my next client through cold calls, door knocking and mass mailers I spend all of my time serving my clients needs before, during and after a transaction. In short I am here to serve you!

I had a house in Vallejo and the first time I listed it with a different company, and it didn’t go too well. I was recommended by my accountant to contact Brett and was informed on how aggressive and serious Brett is when he has a job to do. I contacted Brett, and we met at the site, and for sure he was on it. Make no mistake he got the job done for me ASAP. If I know anybody selling a house, I will recommend them to Brett Barnes. Brett expertly guided my husband and me in what turned out to be a complicated sales transaction. He helped us to prepare, stage and price our home so that we could (and did) received top dollar.

Brett was always available to answer our questions and address our concerns. He usually knew the answers, and when he did not, was able to call on the his team for support.

He proactively coordinated with the many vendors we needed during the transaction, including: home inspection, pest inspection and repair, house cleaning, photography, title company and two other real estate agents.

Because we were buying a new home while selling our current one, timing was crucial. Brett made sure that all parties to the transaction understood our needs and we closed on time.
